Opzeeland is a well-established transport and logistics business with a strong Christchurch presence and a commitment to delivering reliable, efficient service across its network. Operating in a fast-moving environment, they are focused on strengthening their health and safety systems and building a proactive, engaged safety culture.

They are now seeking a capable and hands-on Health & Safety Advisor to take ownership of health, safety, wellbeing, and compliance across the Christchurch depot and wider operations.

This is a key leadership role where you’ll work closely with operational teams, drivers, office staff, contractors, and senior leadership to ensure risks are well managed, safety is actively embedded, and continuous improvement are imbedded across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the H&S strategy, systems, reporting, and continuous improvement across the business

  • Manage risk, incidents, investigations, corrective actions, and compliance requirements

  • Oversee audits, inspections, contractor management, training, and competency tracking

  • Build a strong health & safety culture through engagement, leadership, and communication

  • Drive worker engagement through H&S committees, toolbox talks, and consultation

  • Support wellbeing, fatigue management, emergency preparedness, and PPE compliance

  • Ensure legislative compliance and support managers to meet their health & safety obligations

About You

You’ll bring practical Health & Safety experience in an operational environment such as transport, logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing. You’re confident engaging with frontline teams and leadership, and you know how to balance compliance with real-world practicality.

Key strengths include:

  • Risk management and incident investigation experience

  • Strong knowledge of H&S systems, audits, and compliance

  • A Diploma in Health & Safety, NEBOSH qualification, or equivalent H&S qualification

  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation practically

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Confidence delivering training and facilitating discussions
